Decorative Object

About

Japanese-American artist Jacob Hashimoto creates immersive, large-scale installations using thousands of hand-crafted paper and bamboo kites, arranged in layers and suspended from walls and ceilings. His work explores the intersection of his East Asian and Western identities, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary abstraction.

Hashimoto's installations merge narrative and landscape abstraction, creating suspended worlds that recall both digital pixel grids and ancient Japanese craft traditions. His largest works can comprise thousands of individual kite elements, each hand-painted with acrylic and screen-printed designs.

His work has been exhibited extensively, including at the Miles McEnery Gallery in New York (The Disappointment Engine), St. Cornelius Chapel on Governors Island (The Eclipse), and Ronchini Gallery in London. His installations have been acquired by major institutions and private collections worldwide.
