Angelo Lelii

Lighting design pioneer, founder of Arredoluce

"Updating historical masterpieces with modern technology while strictly maintaining the original aesthetic and spirit"

About

Angelo Lelii (1911–1979) was one of the most inventive and refined figures in twentieth-century Italian lighting design. As the founder of Arredoluce, the Monza-based company he established in 1943, Lelii developed a distinct visual and technical language that helped redefine the role of light in modern interiors. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Lelii did not rely on external manufacturers — he owned and directed his own workshop, controlling every stage from concept to finished piece.

Born Paolo Angelo Lelii in Ancona, he moved with his family to Milan, where he studied at ISIA (the Superior Institute of Industrial Art) at the University of Decorative Arts in Monza. It was in Monza, as early as 1939, that he began producing lamps and chandeliers from a small basement workshop — designs with clean lines, meticulous detailing and an innovative use of materials that set them apart from the decorative traditions of the era.
